An Overview Of What To Do At Your College Dorm Party
If you can’t have fun at college, what’s the point? What’s the point of going to college if not to achieve that?
Haha, just kidding. As a former college student who took five years to complete my degree (don’t judge me), I’ve been to a fair amount of wild dorm parties that I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.
Dorm Parties: What Should You Do?
Before you throw a party in your dorm room, here are a few things you should know:
Take care of your RA
Dorm parties aren’t easy to throw without the RA (resident assistant) shutting them down minutes after they start. My advice would be to get to know your resident assistant! You will find some RAs who don’t even mind if you throw a collage dorm party, as long as you keep the noise to a minimum. However, some RAs are extremely strict and do not allow any drinking in the dorm.
If you’re planning to throw a party in your dormitory, make sure to check the policies first and speak with your Resident Assistant. It wouldn’t do you any good to get in trouble!
Be Aware Of Your Neighbors
I have some advice for you. You don’t want your neighbors to snitch on you, so invite them to your party! HAHA! Well, the rules are the rules!
If they’re not interested in partying with you, make sure to be respectful! Make sure they know what time your party starts and ends, and ask if it is okay to play music. People are generally ok with you having a party next door unless you’re hosting one during finals week. I mean! It’s college! Still, don’t get carried away with the music and make the whole room vibrate.
Throw Away Your Valuables!
There is so much importance here, y’all! During a college party, one of my best friends disappeared with her computer, speaker, and skateboard.
I can’t believe how much money she lost!
She wasn’t even able to recover the stolen items since there were no security cameras nearby. It goes without saying this is a terrible idea to leave your valuables unattended in a party full of crazy (and often broke) college students!
Themes for College Dorm Parties
The majority of people wear whatever they want to dorm parties. Sometimes, though, it can be really fun to spice things up with a theme. These are some ideas you can steal:
- The party of the decade (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s)
- Pajamas party
- Jazz night
- The night of Hip Hop
- Y2K night
- Party in ugly sweaters
- The Devil and the Angel
- Nerd party with a twist
- Maskerade party
- Rock n’ Roll
- Party with denim theme
- Rave rager
Remember to take pictures while you’re there! It’s always a pleasure to take disposable pictures at fun nights like these because they’re always so candid and the vibe is always perfect✨
Food And Drink Ideas For A College Party
Food will make your party guests happy if you provide them with some to munch on. The food does not have to be extravagant. A little treat is fine! Then you won’t have to spend extra money on food, because your guests can bring snacks as part of the “entrance fee.”
Here are some food ideas popular at college parties:
- Salsa and chips
- Hamburger & Cheese Sliders
- Strawberries with chocolate dipped
- Donuts
- Briefings on Tortillas
- Hotdogs
- I forgot to mention pizza!
- Bacon and Macaronni Bites
- Party Mix
- Cheese on the grill
- French fries and hamburgers
Most dorms have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to alcohol. Below are suggestions for non-alcoholic beverages:
- Strawberries and Lemonade (recipe from Delish)
- ‘Mojitos made with watermelon (recipe from Taste)
- Recipe for Virgin Pina Colada (adapted from A Couple Cooks)
- Spicy Southern Kitchen’s Peach Bellini Mocktail (recipe)
- Sangria made with virgin cranberries (recipe from Delish)
- Recipe for Orange Mango Crush (from Taste)
- (Recipe from Cook with Manali) Blueberry Ginger Cooler
Spotify Playlist for Bombs
College parties are successful when you have a killer Spotify party playlist. There are a number of types of music you can choose from depending on the theme of your party. A few Hip Hop classics would never go amiss, though. I’ve enjoyed playing this playlist when I’m in my dorm. It’s such an energetic playlist!
This playlist is DEFINITELY for you if you like Bay Area slaps!
It is also important to have the right speakers! There’s nothing wrong with your phone or laptop, it’s just that… HELLO? Why is there no bass?
JBL’s speakers make the best party speakers without a doubt. It’s awesome if you’re hosting a big party (like a frat party) but if it’s just a dorm party with 20 students, this JBL model might be perfect.
